Employed in increasingly responsible roles in high-needs schools as a teacher and instructional leader in Pennsylvania, Tanzie retired and sought election to the U.S. House of Representative in 2018, 2nd Congressional District, New Jersey, on a platform of community development and public education reform. She gained national attention during this highly contested campaign and appeared, as one of the now-legendary “Avengers,”  on the cover of Time and was featured in high-profile publications including the New York Times and Newsweek.
Reflecting on her ongoing commitment to the education of high-needs students, today Tanzie says of her recent candidacy, "My goal was to improve schools by helping to provide the social supports and economic conditions for families that children need to thrive academically. My life mission is to advance the cause sustaining high quality literacy instruction and to promote equality of educational opportunity for all children."

Tanzie works as a math instructor in New Orleans East and does Special Education consulting work, in addition to founding Visions in Education Network to promote solutions that serve the needs of the public education community.
